Listening to Kate (Evangeline Lilly) and Jack (Matthew Fox) talk about the impending end of "Lost," I can't help but remember the good times.
Here's one of my all time best "Lost" moments. I was one of 100 or so lucky journalists who attended the 2005 launch event for the "Lost" Season 1 DVD, covering the bash for the now-defunct Variety publication VLife.
I stayed on Oahu, near the set, and bunked at the luxurious Turtle Bay Resort on the north shore of the island. Then there was the souvenir travel intinerary/party invite that looked like an Oceanic Airlines plane ticket, to be used for a tram (fake plane) ride to a top-secret party location, complete with chirpy females dressed as flight attendants, handing out packages of peanuts.
The "flight" hit a little planned "turbulence" (a bumpy road and slightly erratic steering by the driver) as the tram performed a rocky landing in the dark jungle. Hidden speakers blasted loud roars of giant bears and other hidden creatures, plus the sounds of crashing in the vegetation, as guests and reporters followed the colored lights to a clearing deep in the mangroves.
The centerpiece of the party was a burned Oceanic fuselage, where a band performed while guests enjoyed Hawaiian fare and tropical fruit drinks, occasionally checking out the penned -- and totally bored by the whole scene -- wild boar.
Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lilly (Wearing boots? On the sand?), Naveen Andrews, Jorge Garcia, Dominic Monaghan, Terry O'Quinn and Daniel Dae Kim stopped to talk to reporters waiting on the red carpet that had been rolled out on the sand.
Even the cast members were impressed by the elaborate jungle party space, where the sand had been specially cleared and cleaned for the event.
It was a magical trip. To this day, I still wish I could go back to the island.... Anyone wanna come with me?
